The Art of Making Conversation Social conversation is the most common of all interchanges that go on in the workplace and the community at large. It is by far the most common among societal inhabitants. It is the polite interchange between colleagues and associates in the workplace; it is the "niceties" among strangers; and it is the small talk that changes strangers into familiar beings. It is social interaction. |

Fuel+ The ever increasing number of automobiles poses a major threat to the environment. Besides, the fossil fuels which these vehicles use are non-renewable and it will be a while before technologies based on renewable, energy sources attain market viability. In the meantime, it is important to conserve the fossil fuel sources and make optimum use of them. The device addresses this issue in a small but yet significant way. |

The direct impact to the users is by way of savings in fuel costs, be it petrol for 2 wheelers or LPG for domestic cooking.
The innovation is a magnetic device which can be fitted on
the fuel lines of internal combustion engines and LPG stoves. As the fuel
passes through the device it gets subjected to a magnetic field. This
improves the combustibility of the fuel. The claimed benefits are a higher
fuel efficiency and lower emission of harmful carbon particles, unburned
hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen. |

Kaizen
guiding the people creativity to fuel business improvements
Sanjeev Dhawan The way I have seen Kaizen happening in our midst is a travesty of the philosophy of Kaizen. Most of the times, the Kaizen movement is started in the right earnest. Soon, we get to our favourite past time of chasing numbers (they may be Kaizen numbers). Getting back to the roots, Kaizen was supposed to be an opportunity for a person to improve his work area, work method and work output by lessening the pain he/ she feels while working. |
Our smaller future By Sunita Narain Source: Down to Earth, Mar 15 2009
First came the food crisis, early last year. As prices of daily bread soared, riots broke out and food shops ran empty. Countries realized the value of growing food locally. Then, even as food prices stabilised somewhat (it remains high), oil prices jumped so high even our normally unflappable finance minister yelped. Since then, the price has crashed and with economic slow-down promises to stay down. But the world did learn the pain of high price and shortages. Not enough, of course, for it to get serious about re-inventing energy security. But learn it did. By September 2008, our economic czars, exhaling from oil-relief, had to hold their breath again. Starting with Lehman Brothers, the biggest of the big started crashing; every week brought a new surprise and a different downfall. For once, even the know-it-alls—the Davos glitterati—seemed uncertain of the future. They still don’t dare exhale. |
